Dev Blog 135: The future of Airport CEO

Sorry, but for me this is a really game breaking thing. I can´t stand the “short” look the default runways have (which is why i acknowledged the “smaller” scale the game is supposed to represent).

I’d rather continue with the current system, and just add an option to make the runway wider, perhaps up to 2 tiles each side (not sure). The new system will just take away a good chunk of creative freedom, something this game is the complete opposite of…

EDIT: I mean, this game is all about creative freedom, and not supposed to be the other way around

For people trying to make ‘nice’ airports it should be paramount to have the ability to rotate objects in less than 90 degrees. Even 45° are optically too coarse to be realistic.

I myself would be okay with 45°, but I don’t try to model Daxing in ACEO.

Nice reading. I have some ideas on how to bring the airport closer to reality.

Make a twy for a large span and a medium span as shown in Figure 1. Set the yellow line to definitely the span and parallel twy blue and orange to the medium span and mark the maximum wingspan as in Figure 2.

It would be nice if the markings were twy as in picture two. You could set your own labels.

Picture three are taxiing characters that would be placed next to twy, it would be a nice accessory from the top view, which could light at night and like a real airport.

Actually I wouldn’t say no to these taxiway markings.

One way doors would be a massive help in passanger control and movement.

I think the updates ahead are great, but in my humble opinion they should be deployed in a different order.
I’m aware that the dev team know their own game better than all of us and they probably have a good reason to deploy the updates in the order mentioned in the devblog, but I think that gameplay and terminal updates should be deployed before large aircraft.
I can only imagine the game being very chaotic with large aircrafts and without a good terminal flow, for example.
In my opinion the updates should be deployed in the following order:
Gameplay>>Terminal>>Large aircraft>>Panic.

Hope you reconsider this.

By the way, I also consider that the current runway size system is better than preset runway length as planned.

Totally agree, terminal is the most important feature the be deployed in the game right now. It is already hard to keep a nice passenger flow in medium airport and in large one it is just impossible.
The floor update helps a lot with that issue but does not fix it.
Moreover, supposing that you will increase the map size to fit those new large stands and runways, it will be even more difficult to create big airport with a nice flow.

I was also wondering if you would allow players to redesign current objects, such as security gate, boarding gate, etc. It would be awesome to get more custom objects depending on our airport since in some cases it is hard to build a “pretty” layout regarding the foundations / object size / object placement (like the metro entrance forcing you to be in a specific square)

They said they aren’t adjusting the map size in near future, as of right now, so that wouldn’t be a problem

People want large aircraft development. On social media, on Steam and on other platforms it is the mostly discussed development request.

If you remember when there were multifloor development, some people said that game engine wasn’t ready for it but a large part of community asked for it. Now same thing happen and I am sure that ACEO developers can handle it.

At the end of the day the result will be the same so I think doing large aircraft first makes some sense since it adds a bit more of a reason to continue playing until the next big update

By implementing large airplanes before adding the terminal update, it’s easier to build the things that will be needed to really support those large airplanes on the terminal side.
It’s easier to spot the bottlenecks due to the influx in passengers.

By first going for the terminal update, it’s more likely that things are added that are great at first, but when large airplanes are added, wouldn’t be as great as first thought.

Same for gameplay, it’s easier to make sure both the large aircraft and the terminal stuff is added to work on balancing things.

If you balance things before the main features are added, you will basically have to redo all the balancing at a later point.

Fredrik, Olof and Alexander have thought this out really well and will make sure to not disappoint you
Yes the large aircrafts will cause some chaos, but it’s the best way to spot what needs fixing/improving when actually working on the terminal update <3

First, what people wants doesn’t necessarily means that is the best for the gaming experience.
Secondly, prior to multifloor the devs made a lot to improve the game performance just to be able to deploy multifloors.
Maybe the devs are going to do a lot of changes at the same time as large aircraft are deployed that would solve the issues I’m afraid of, but just based on what I read in the devblog, it seems that is going to be chaotic, always talking from my humble personal opinion, I could be wrong.

Will there also be a medium/large aircraft parking for holding/parking aircrafts till the gates are available?

I Like the idea of the holding bays too

I’m surprised they aren’t in the game yet. Would love to see them too

Another small idea to add 2 other levels to the game -

Fix Based Operator (FBO) businesses & services for charter & GA aircraft.

GA are so underprivileged and boring in the game. This would also tie in charter services for our charter airlines. And in general make the GA aspect of the game more entertaining, make GA more profitable than it currently is (not) etc…

This would include:

  • General Aircraft - tie-downs, box hangers and T-hangers (leasable and day rentable)
  • Charter Stands (already in the game - medium/small & maybe large) made to have flights scheduled - we can kinda do this already - but tie in the FBO with the charter stands
  • FBO business added in game and provide services to charter stands (medium/small & maybe large) & GA tie-downs/box & T-hangers
  • FBO Services could include (and fees associated with each):
    • stand/hanger/tie-down leasing/day-rental (aircraft would always stay at the airport other than daily/multi-day flights through the term of the lease)
    • aircraft rentals (aircraft would stay at airport and take flights from and back to the airport)
    • maintenance services
    • training services (kinda like a/c rentals) etc…
  • Fueling Services & service road connections - instead of roads connected to the GA tie-downs/hangers you would have a special pad that they could go and fuel up or you could connect a road to the tie-downs/hangers (like the de-icing pads) to make fuel truck services available to them. (This would also be nice to make possible for all the stands so that you could put 2 remote stands together with 1 two-way road between them instead of 2 two-way roads)

We should also be able to:

  • add checking, boarding, & security-checkpoints to the charter/GA facility areas. We would make this a separate “terminal” area (once the terminal release comes).
  • make it possible for the bus/car/taxi stops to drop off only charter/GA owners- & passengers (if ever added) at the FBO facility locations for check-in, boarding & maybe security. (no other passengers for commercial airlines would be dropped off at those locations).
  • make the future release public parking lots assignable to the FBO “terminal” areas.

Can we have GA tie-downs and box/T-hangers that don’t take up as much space as a small stands. I would love to have more GA areas incorporated at my airports but the small stands take up so much space compared to how small the GA aircraft are and leave so much unused space that the GA don’t use (the road and turn around area). Just an idea

And make it possible to have GA tie-downs and/or box/T-hangers leasable or day rentable. The GA that lease the spots will stay at the airport and leave for day/multi-day flights and then other aircraft can fly in and rent a spot for the day or multiple days. This would incorporate the GA aspect of the game a little more. Maybe create FBO companies that provide the above services for the game and connect them to the GA hanger/tie-downs & charter stands.

How many of us only have GA aircraft at their airport to get through the tutorial in the beginning and then get rid of them afterwards? OR how many don’t even put GA at their airport and ignore the tutorial? This would make it a little more fun with the GA and a way to make it useful to have them at the airport and make a little more money than you would without the leasing/day rentals…

Right now for my charter stands I have to have the passengers enter the main terminal with all other passengers and then take a shuttle bus to the “remote” stand. So having them be able to park or be dropped off at the FBO facility area would help a lot. And still be able to use connected stands or remotes stands at the FBO Facility “Terminal”.

What do you all think?

Thanks for the consideration!

Ill add this to the ideas category as well…

sorry, didn’t mean to reply to you @Rick2522, meant to do a general reply to the thread

Are we going to be able to manually schedule overnight flights (arrive before midnight, leave after midnight) at some point?

Can’t you already do this? Simply need to research night hours or whatever it’s called

You can run overnight flights but you can’t manually place them in the scheduler to arrive before midnight but then leave after midnight (eg. arrive 22:00 Monday depart 02:00 Tuesday). That can only be done by the auto-scheduler at the moment.

Does “improved Depot management” include fuel pipelines?
