I think a few days ago my full stop and comma keys worked (or at least one of them) to rotate the items I want to put down. They don’t work anymore and I cannot find under “controls” what key to use. How do I rotate items now?

That bug was corrected. Do you have the latest version (Alpha 32-8.1)?

It has been “R” since the very first time of the game. 
Oh, I had the same problem, but it stopped after I saved and reloaded the game.
